Q. Are the benefits listed per insured or per booking?
A. The benefits for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption are the total per booking. For example
insured purchased travel insurance coverage for a trip costing a total of $2,000, this would be the
reimbursement allowable under trip cancellation or interruption for that booking. All other cover
person with the exception of the Car Rental Collision Coverage which is per car coverage.
Q. Will my current homeowners, renters, credit card, or health insurance policies cover my
trip?
A. Other insurance policies may not offer coverage while you travel due to benefit limits, territory restrictions,
and deductibles. Most people don't have any insurance coverage at all if they must cancel their trip. This
insurance plan has a wide range of travel benefits; which credit card, homeowners, and renter’s insurance
policies may not offer. The medical coverage included in this insurance plan is vital for most people whose
health insurance policies do not pay for covered medical expenses incurred outside of the United States (e.g.,
Medicare, certain HMO's, etc.) This coverage in this plan is primary.
Q. I know that I have a pre-existing medical condition; will the plan cover me?
A. Even if you have a medical condition that has been unstable in the last 60 days, you should still consider
enrolling in this insurance plan because you can waive the Pre-Existing Condition exclusion by enrolling in the
plan and paying for it within 21 days of your initial deposit. So long as you are medically able to travel at time
of purchase, waiving the Pre-Existing Condition exclusion is the easiest way to alleviate doubt as to coverage
for chronic medical conditions. There are some conditions that are not covered by the policy such as anxiety-
related mental or nervous disorders. Please see the Exclusions section of the Description of Coverage to view
these coverages.
Q. One of the reasons listed under trip cancellation is “Sickness, Injury or death of an Insured, Family
Member, Traveling Companion, Service Animal or Business Partner”. What is the definition of a Family
Member, Business Partner and Service Animal?
A. The family member definition means the Insured’s or Traveling Companion’s spouse, Domestic Partner,
Child, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother, sister, mother, father, grandparents, grandchild, step-child, step-
brother, step-sister, step-parents, parents-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, legal
guardian, foster child, ward, or legal ward. The Business Partner definition means a person who: (1) is involved
with the Insured or the Insured’s Traveling Companion in a legal partnership; and (2) is actively involved in the
daily management of the business. The Service Animal definition means any guide dog, signal dog, or other
animal individually trained to work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including,
but not limited to, guiding persons with impaired vision, alerting persons with impaired hearing to intruders or
sounds, providing animal protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, or fetching dropped items.
Q. Given the current economy, what if my spouse loses his/her job?
A. The All Seasons Travel Plan includes trip cancellation/interruption coverage due to involuntary termination
or layoff which occurs more than 14 days after an Insured’s effective date of coverage. Only one year of
employment with the same employer is required. If you or one of your traveling companions loses their job
through no fault of their own and need to cancel or interrupt their trip, this plan can provide reimbursement of
non-refundable pre-paid travel expenses.
Q. What if I need transportation due to medical reasons and I am unable to get prior authorization from
Travel Guard?
A. We always instruct our insureds to contact local medical services during an emergency for immediate
medical attention, or evacuation if necessary, and then notify Travel Guard as soon as is reasonably possible.
Payment arrangements for your evacuation will depend on the nature of your evacuation will depend on the nature of your particular situation and should be
discussed with Travel Guard.
Q: Will my vacation be covered if I cancel due to a hurricane?
A: You will have coverage if the property that you are staying at is inaccessible or uninhabitable within 30
days after the named hurricane causes the damage.
Q. Is there help while I'm traveling?
A. One of the valued benefits offered in this insurance plan is the 24-Hour Emergency Assistance Service.
Travel Guard is a leader in this field. With Travel Guard, you have access to the services of a highly trained,
multi-lingual staff around the clock to assist you with such emergencies as cash transfers, lost documents,

A Stinging Surprise. A serene, relaxing time was what Susan and Steve T. of Wisconsin expected while vacationing in Mexico. Unfortunately, what they experienced was just the opposite. Things started out well enough. The couple, who was vacationing with Susan's parents in Sayulita, a small town about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta, had looked forward to getting away from it all and celebrating Steve's birthday.
"We were at the beach because Steve loves to surf," said Susan. "My parents and I were enjoying the sun and reading while watching Steve surf. When Steve finished, he got off his board and started to walk out of the water. Suddenly, his hand touched something sharp."
Moments later, as Steve emerged from the water, he noticed his hand was bleeding which, in his words, felt like someone had "put a hot poker through his hand." What could cause such an injury? As it turned out, a sea urchin had stung him five times. Seconds ticked by and his wounds became more hot and painful as the toxins spread throughout his hand.
Since Sayulita was very small without a hospital, the couple sought out a local clinic. The doctor gave Steve an IV which contained fluid and steroids. That only relieved the pain for about a half hour. But, by the end of that night, his hand had swollen and looked like it was starting to swell past his wrist.
"The next day we took Steve to Puerto Vallarta where he saw several doctors who hospitalized him immediately because of the potential he could go into anaphylactic shock from the toxins," said Susan. "That's when I called Travel Guard who somehow knew how to contact the right people at the hospital, to coordinate paperwork to get us the care we
needed."
Susan, now worried and stressed, tried to think of all she needed to do to get her husband the right care, what paperwork was necessary and how to handle costs and the language barrier. But, as it turned out, Susan wouldn't need to worry at all.
"Travel Guard handled it all," said Susan. "Travel Guard made us feel like we were their top priority. They gave me a chance to breathe and deal with what was really important - my husband and his health. Within a week or so after we returned from our vacation, the insurance through Travel Guard reimbursed us for all of Steve's medical costs. We will never travel without you again."
In dire straits, Travel Guard makes all the difference. "December was one of the worst months in my life. I was to fly home on 12/15 for the funeral of 2 close family friends. I then received news that my father died tragically on 12/13. I had purchased travel insurance.
Needless to say, after 3 deaths, funeral services and my brother ending up in the hospital, I was not in a stable mind, so I decided to call Travel Guard to help me. I was connected with Amy Martens who stuck by my side and helped advocate with the airlines. I was too distraught to do it on my own. She stayed on the phone with the airlines, got me booked on a new and calmed me down, telling me to just submit the claim later.

It would be nice if the story ended there, unfortunately my flight had been cancelled. JetBlue didn't have any more flights out that day; neither did American. Exhausted, I just lost it. Amy stepped up again to help; she put me on a flight within a couple of hours of my original departure. And then….she made a follow-up call to make sure I got home okay!
Amy Martens is worth her weight in gold. She stayed cool and calm for me. Now back on my feet again, I wanted to let you know what a great employee you have."
Trapped? Travel Guard to the rescue! An estimated 200 Americans were trapped in a Costa Rican airport after numerous delays and cancellations. Since they passed through customs, armed security kept them from leaving. Worse, security refused to let food or cots in overnight. Blankets were only provided to young children for sleeping on concrete. Travel Guard had a family of five in the mix whose flights were cancelled five times.
After calling Travel Guard, we spoke to a few of your agents (Jenny Kruz, Henry Rose and Rosemarie Flees) who secured a room across from the airport only to have security deny the family's wish to leave. A hotel employee offered to be connected with Security to try and gain clearance, with no luck. The family's next request was for Travel Guard to file a complaint at the US embassy. Finally, their flight was scheduled to depart. The support our agents provided was something this family will never forget.
"You were AMAZING!! We were in a nightmare situation and you kept me calm and helped in every way possible to mitigate the problem. Above and beyond any customer service I have ever experienced anywhere, anytime; and I travel extensively! I would never consider using a different travel insurance company again. Thank you for your incredible people and service. I will recommend you to everyone I know." – Lisa Saver
Baby Blues on a Cruise; There are many moments in life that create lasting memories. Having a baby and going on a vacation are two of them, but Shawna and Alex of Alaska didn't expect to experience both at the same time. On their recent cruise, that's nearly what happened.
"We wanted to go on a vacation before we started our family," said Shawna. "We knew that it would be hard to spend quality time relaxing together on vacation once we had our first child."
The couple left on their cruise from San Diego to visit Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. Their plans? Shawna was going to relax and enjoy the sunshine and go hiking while her husband went scuba diving.
Three days into their cruise, the couple was having a fabulous time lounging by the
pool, enjoying perfect weather, meeting new people and reading on the balcony. They had just finished eating a gourmet meal aboard the ship when Shawna felt pain go through her body and experienced significant bleeding. Fearing the worst, they saw the ship's doctor who sent the couple to a hospital once the ship docked in Mazatlan. The diagnosis? A life threatening pregnancy complication. The baby was on the way.
"I was nearly 24 weeks along, making the baby's chance of surviving slim, even in the best hospitals," said Shawna. "The doctors at the Mazatlan hospital gave me medications to stop labor and help the baby's lungs develop in case he arrived prematurely. I stayed in the Mazatlan hospital for 17 days on strict bed rest, until it was safe for me to travel."
Given the situation, the couple couldn't return to their cruise. Instead, they needed to find a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the remainder of the pregnancy. Unfortunately, the area in Alaska where they were from did not offer such a high level of care. The couple chose to get a flight to Indiana where Shawna's parents lived and where there was a hospital with a Level III NICU. Once in Indiana, Shawna was placed under the care of a Perinatalogist for the remainder of her pregnancy. Eventually, she delivered a healthy baby boy on his due date.
Upon their arrival back home in Alaska, Shawna e-mailed Travel Guard:
"Travel Guard not only made arrangements and booked our flights out of Mexico to my parents' town in Indiana," said Shawna. "They also were very helpful during the claims process and began processing the appropriate paperwork while we were in Mexico. The coverage through Travel Guard not only reimbursed us for our lost time on the cruise and the cancellation fees on our original return flights, it also covered additional costs for an unexpected flight."
"Our doctor recommended that we purchase travel insurance because I was pregnant," said Shawna. "It was the first time I purchased a travel insurance plan and I am very grateful for the assistance it provided. Knowing we had coverage provided through Travel Guard helped give us assurance we needed when dealing with our finances during this stressful medical emergency."
