My wife and I stayed for a month at an apartment located in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta, at Hortencias 153. It was a spacious one-bedroom unit for two people, with king bed, large bathroom (wonderful rain showerhead), kitchen with good fridge, microwave, 4-burner gas stove, and blender (great for making fruit smoothies!). It was all we needed to enjoy a relaxing time in Mexico while doing some cooking, some reading, some shopping for the freshest fruits and veggies at the open market, and daily walking.

These apartments are located on the hillside above town and they all have a good view of downtown and the Bay of Banduras. Here’s what impressed us: clean and spacious room with large windows across the front facing the bay, good shortcut walking path downhill to the shops, restaurants, and beaches. We did not need to rent a car. We walked a lot for exercise and used Uber or taxi to return uphill if we were carrying groceries. The best walking is in the morning and evening when the temps are cooler. Evenings are especially fun along the Malecon where all the action is: music, art, food booths, trinkets, and fabulous beachside restaurants.

This property is a hidden gem owned by a lovely host (Adriana) who speaks English very well and was very responsive to our needs. We think this sort of locally owned accommodation is the best way to experience the culture in a safe and convenient facility at a much more reasonable rate than a hotel or resort. We booked with Jeff Musto ([email protected]) who also is very helpful and understands the quality of accommodations that Americans are looking for. We can’t wait to go back again next year for a longer stay!
