The mayhem in Mexico appears to be subsiding after violence erupted in 20 states following the killing of the powerful leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho”.

The unrest forced tourists to shelter in place and cancelled hundreds of flights leaving many tourists stranded, including ABC7 News producer Juan Carlos Guerrero – who got stranded there on vacation. On Tuesday he ventured out in the tourist destination of Puerto Vallarta to see the recovery firsthand.

Here’s the latest verified situation as of today, Tuesday February 24, 2026 8 am regarding the alert/curfew (“Código Rojo”) in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico:
